Our Story

At Merlo Construction, our roots run deep, with a legacy of craftsmanship passed down through three generations. Founded in 1991 by brothers Perry and Ray Merlo, we have grown from a small, family-owned concrete contractor into a leading construction company.

What began as a commitment to quality and hard work has evolved into a comprehensive suite of services, including demolition, earthwork, utilities, concrete foundations, interior flatwork, and more. Our ability to handle multiple aspects of a project under one roof not only streamlines the construction process but also saves our clients valuable time, energy and cost.

We leverage the latest construction technology, from advanced estimating software to GPS-guided grading equipment, ensuring that every project is executed with pinpoint accuracy. Our fleet of modern excavating and heavy construction machinery, including laser screeds with 3D technology, allows us to deliver results that exceed industry standards. Merlo Construction is a diversified concrete and earthwork contractor, with a self-managed team leading the way.
We are Southeastern-Michigan focused, travelling out of town only when we are following good customers or partners.
We continue to grow, with a target annual revenue and profitability growth of 10%.
We achieve this growth by maintaining relationships with repeat customers and developing new customers.
In addition to commercial concrete, MDOT, and earthwork, Merlo does a significant amount of municipal work, including streetscapes, pipe jobs, pathways, and similar work.
We control the schedule and the relationship with the project owner.
We work as a Prime contractor on 40% of our MDOT work.

We continue to be successful as a TEAM.
We provide excellent hourly wages, great benefits, consistent hours, and a retirement plan.
Because of growth (and retirements), we have developed and promoted people from within to lead our crews, our divisions, and our overall Company.
We have consistent processes and procedures throughout all divisions of the Company.
Our Leadership Team includes the President, Director of Operations, divisional managers for each of our major divisions, and our Controller.
Merlo operates out of a new HQ location between Milford and Brighton. As a result, we have more yard and shop space for our equipment fleet and better meeting space.
